I meant on my instance in general, not in the image. On lemmy.ml for some reason, if you type “bitсһ” then it gets automatically-replaced with the text “removed.”

Never really thought of it as a slur. Like a general-purpose slur against women? I don’t really agree, it’s in common parlance, at least in my area. I’ve never found it offensive, personally. Generally when people I know use it, it’s meant in a positive, I guess you could say “reclaimed” fashion. Plus, there are much worse slurs that are not censored.

not sure how to test this without just publicly posting a big list of slurs lol. Anyway, it’s just odd to me since I don’t consider bitсһ a slur. It’s on the exact same level of rudeness as bastard.

It’s not about rudeness, it’s about women being a repressed minority and so by definition the words used to denigrate them are slurs.

Ah, I see. Still, I’d remove it from the list; it doesn’t really strike me as the same kind of thing at all. Kinda ridiculous to put it on the same level as like, actual slurs.

It’s good to be sensitive to the concerns of minority groups, and the women on .ml don’t want to see that word.

Do they know the word exists? Words are meant to describe ideas, if you ban a word the idea isn’t going anywhere. People will just use other words to describe the same idea. Or they will just use the word, it will be removed but everyone will understand the idea.

Really, I don’t think there’s anything more ridiculous and pathetic than banning words.

But we don’t have to see it, and there’s value in that. Also, people don’t really use the word literally because it gets removed. Normal people get the idea that they aren’t supposed to say it, so they stop. It works.

It is though. Cracker is used as an insult exclusively against (usually poor) white people. I can only hope you know that, so what sarcastic point are you trying to make? Are you saying dick was a bad comparison to bitch, or are you saying dick is actually a slur the same as cracker? Or something else?

You can’t be racist against white people.

Racism is discrimination or prejudice based on race. By definition, you are incorrect.

I see I gave you the benefit of the doubt for no reason. That’s my bad, I should have known better.

Your comment is completely irrelevant. Whether you want to call it racist or whatever else, a word used to insult a group of people based on the color of their skin is a slur. Simple as.

A word used to insult a privileged group for being members of that privileged group (i.e. white people) is not a slur. 🙄

                    Also acceptable: whitey or honkey

And don’t pretend like this is about poverty to try and squeeze crackers into a minority group. Crackerdom is not limited by class.

Leave it to reddit.world to try and argue about this shit.

Dick is as much a slur as bitch, and are used in the same context about the same people. They are neither male nor female slurs.

What if you are referring specifically to a female canine, Elton John or Meredith Brooks?
