It’s a 1989 Singer(?) Sonata Sew-Ease 6621.

I’m sure it’s not the finest piece of machinery out there, but for $10 it came with a pedal, several bobbins, some thread, a few needles, and everything on it appears to be in working order.

After a video chat with my mom, I was able to run a test stitch:

I’m not sure if this is gonna take off as a hobby for me, but I’m gonna give it a go with what time I can spare! I even have a crappy projector I might try to use 😬

So, I just discovered this community and since you posted 3 months ago - how is your sewing going so far?

I haven’t sewn a single stitch since haha.

Ok that’s a lie, I spent an afternoon on one project, then got busy and haven’t pulled it back out 🤷‍♂️

I still have high hopes, just not enough time in life, or motivation. Besides distractions from other hobbies.

      It’s on my list though!

Same - or similar - here. I had great plans to become a master at mending clothes and have finally taken out my sewing machine from the basement just for it to sit there for weeks before I actually touched it. The “projects” were piling up and still are. I did manage to eventually take some time to do small stuff such as shortening pants or fixing a hole in jeans by going over it back and forth, but there is just so much time I can dedicate to a hobby I am not yet good at. But I did fix a hole in a seam on the butt crack today, yay! It will take much more time until I have the real motivation to actually sew something from scratch.

Although, come to think of it, a couple of weeks ago I managed to make a tiny skirt for a small doll for my daughter! You’d think small would be fast and easy, but with so little fabric it is actually quite hard to coordinate stitches. It turned out super cute for a fast and spontaneous project though!

Good luck on your journey, I hope you’ll get around to what is on your list and I’ll see a post of something you made eventually :)

Very nice. Sewing is not something I do often, but it has been a good skill to have at many times and has saved my family and I a lot of money.

Give a shot to making something relatively easy that will give you a good feel for the capability of the machine and doesn’t necessarily require a pattern. Curtains were the last thing I made that fit that description.
