There are few species that can make an entrance better than the Short Eared Owl!

These incredible birds can be viewed flying low zipping through the air looking for prey but during the breeding season something truly fascinating can be witnessed.

During mid flight, the Males can be seen actually “clapping” their primary wing feathers while briefly falling from the sky in a display of fitness! Both Male and Female can clap their wings to warn of predators and protect the nest but only the males do this to show off to their potential mates for each year.

They truly deserve a round of applause for clapping in flight! :-)
