If you don’t care about making it look right it’s way cheaper to buy the component images and piece them together than it is to coordinate a photo shoot with a model who is willing to get in a bath and the crew who would be needed (not a lot, but probably a lighting tech and a makeup person at least, if one of them was also willing and able to do things like keep the bubbles looking right.)

Ironically, Apple has some of the best odds of coming out of this reasonably healthy. “Apple Intelligence” follows the trend of most Apple services products, in that it is really intended to lock people into their ecosystem and keep buying iPhones. I’m just waiting for someone in the big 7 or whatever they’re called to publicly bow out of AI. I suspect the first one to do it might benefit a lot.

Tl;dr is they are a secret society at Yale comprised of legacy kids (I believe both presidents Bush were members, for example) that has initiation rites that are supposed to be humiliating which creates a bond. Apparently they have changed quite a bit from their heyday in the first half of the twentieth century.

To be fair, there does seem to be a real tradition of “we get together and do things that are embarrassing and possibly illegal to have mutually assured destruction by way of blackmail.” Skull and Bones is supposedly based entirely on that framework.

Reading the article just refines and deepens that sense of horror and disgust.

For example, there is a creative writing app called Manuskript that doesn’t seem to install the same way if I’m using fedora and KDE or fedora and Gnome.

Or, I installed various distros on older Apple hardware and they don’t automatically mount a second drive that is present and detected, even after taking what should be the steps to auto-mount the drive at startup.

I will say that there is a usability issue with some aspects of Linux. If you are not a sysadmin but want to use a computer for more than just browsing the web and sending email, you can get blocked pretty easily and the vast number of possible configurations out there makes troubleshooting way more difficult than on a windows or Mac machine.
