These companies will use the lowest possible bitrate with the newest possible codecs to balance quality and bandwidth. They will also default to a medium quality when it comes to picking audio quality.

I’d say they are doing their best already just to save bandwidth costs.

Just look at YouTube and how they set the video quality (resolution) as low as they can get away with.

I do this location sharing with someone.

The only time it crosses my mind to check it is when they are coming to visit or we are otherwise traveling or meeting up.

I thankful for whatever makes it easy for me to just be chill about it. It’s nice to not have to manually mess with an app when needed. And it’s there in an emergency.

Edit: oh shit. This reminds me that I saw one of those 360 something ads recently. I usually avoid tv ads, but happened to see one. It was unhinged in how it was stoking paranoia to sell the tracking. It was targeted at parents.

Not in this ruling. A hoard of books or videos you didn’t pay for is still piracy. And the volume of it is a key factor when making this decision. At the scale these AI companies have been working, it’s flagrant.

I don’t jive with the guy heading it up. With the way he communicates the message, with the style of video he makes, or with the approach of a petition. I think all of that combined is a weight on the effort.

That’s where I’ll leave it though. Cuz I’m just one guy. No need to throw a bunch of downvotes on this. My voice won’t hurt the cause.

I’m not against the goal. But I have voiced that I don’t think this route/configuration of leadership will work.

I only heard about it once people on Lemmy started talking shit about this pirate guy. I hadn’t heard about him either. So it came on my radar as drama. And I ended up having a rough time sharing my point of view. People are really emotional about this intuitive. They take any criticism as an attack that could harm progress on signatures.

In the end the drama with this pirate dork ended up actually bringing positive attention that helped an otherwise flagging initiative for signatures.

I hope the initiative causes positive change.

If something is a paid service, and you don’t pay for it yet you obtain the content then you are pirating to avoid paying for the content.
