I’m stunned there aren’t more wrecks. OTOH, about the same amount of people die in car wrecks vs. guns in America, and the vast majority of guns deaths aren’t random. I’m far more afraid of dying behind the wheel.

shalafi@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•Confusion surrounds Air India as crash dents national prideEnglish2·59 minutes agoI think the larger question is if the cutoff was on purpose. They’re still not sharing all the cockpit audio. I know nothing about aviation, but everything I’ve read on this seems to point to an intentional crash. If not, why is the Indian government holding back anything at all?

Am old, don’t get any of this. 4-5 hour dry times? Did I read that wrong? Mine does a load in 50 minutes, tops. The end of the cycle is fairly easy to figure, since you set the minutes yourself.
Cory Doctorow’s ‘Unauthorized Bread’ is about exactly that scenario.

We’re in one of the richest countries in the world and the minimum wage is lower now than it was thirty-five years ago.
There are homeless people everywhere…
This homeless guy asked me for money the other day.
I was about to give it to him and then I thought he’s just going to use it on drugs or alcohol.
And then I thought: “That’s what I’m going to use it on!”
“Why am I judging this poor bastard?”
People love to judge homeless guys.
Like if you give him the money he’s just going to waste it. He’s going to waste the money.
Well, he lives in a box, what do you want him to do? Save it up and buy a wall unit?
Take a little run to the store for a throw rug and a CD rack?
He’s homeless!
I walked behind this guy the other day. A homeless guy asked him for money.
He looks right at the homeless guy and goes: “Why don’t you go get a job, you bum?”
People always say that to homeless guys, “Get a job”, like it’s always that easy.
This homeless guy was wearing his underwear outside his pants.
I’m guessing his resume ain’t all up to date.
I’m predicting some problems during the interview process.
I’m pretty sure even McDonald’s has a “Underwear Go Inside The Pants” policy.
Not that they enforce it really strictly, but technically, I’m sure it is on the books.
Anecdotally, I’m 54 and have never known a bi man. Yeah, there were deep in the closet last century, but still, I’ve known loads and loads of gay people. No idea how that works.
Does this weird anyone else out? Graduated HS in 1989 and it seemed like we were all fucking, even the nerds. I’m short and scrawny, still tripped and fell into pussy now and again.
There’s something really alarming about this, can’t put my finger on it. It’s certainly weird that today’s young people aren’t fucking when we were going nuts during the AIDS epidemic, risking our lives for that cookie. Sex is such a basic human need I can’t imagine what going without is doing to mental health.
What is the whore joke supposed to be about?
I’ve got some growing out back after my third year trying! I wanted the sponges but my wife is bugging me to chop them down to eat. “You people EAT those?!”
Same! Those things get crappier and more expensive every year.
Shoot us a link for a style you like! Had no idea this was a thing.
As the evidence gets more and more overwhelming they seem to be dropping the hoax thing and calling it natural change.
The phrase means that the author has said something profound and/or shocking and you should pause to internalize the idea.
