As someone who’s kinda getting into reading but doesn’t yet know what authors I like, the library is a really good place to just try out books that look interesting without spending a shitton.
Right now I’m reading a book called the Clockwork Dynasty by Daniel H. Wilson which is a really neat alternate history book about automotons. I literally just grabbed it off the shelf at the library based on the font choice and I’m really enjoying it so far
Libby, Hoopla, Kanopy (movie streaming) etc are great resources my library offers and for being free they are really good
I started those services a few years ago I’ve read more than I have in a long time. It feels way healthier than scrolling forever when I’m bored at work
I feel like the sort of people that want to close libraries, want to close libraries because people use them.
I don’t think I even have the right information they want unless they’re lenient (like accepting a very old school ID for photo ID).
You can always stop in and ask, and if not you can look at stuff while there without checking anything out. My local library is half a block from the mechanic I usually go to so I’ll often wander over while my tires are being rotated and find some coffee table book to thumb through for 20 minutes
Regarding ID they often just need proof of residence, which can simply be a utility bill in your name or they might even accept junk mail that’s addressed to you
I got mine online without an ID
