Trump signs executive order targeting flag burning

President Donald Trump signed an executive order seeking to penalize people who burn flags, although courts have long upheld the practice as legitimate expression under the First Amendment. The order aims to prosecute people who burn flags associated with other violence, such as inciting a riot, the president said. "If you burn a flag, you get one year in jail," Trump said. "You will see flag burning stop immediately."

This is likely to apply more to conservatives than anyone else. Slapping words on a flag? Desecration. Using it for advertising? Desecration. Adding symbols (like guns)? Desecration. It’s not going to be enforced like that, but the hypocrisy is real.

When a flag is so tattered that it can no longer serve as a symbol of the United States, it should be destroyed in a dignified manner, preferably by burning.

“The Attorney General shall prioritize the enforcement to the fullest extent possible of our Nation’s criminal and civil laws against acts of American Flag desecration that violate applicable, content-neutral laws, while causing harm unrelated to expression, consistent with the First Amendment” If I am reading this correctly, all the Trump enthusiasts desecrating a flag with their diesel exhaust while speeding/road rage/DUI should all be round up. So vague in wording not even describing what desiccating the flag means…
