A perfect chance for the NDP to do what it does best and completely miss another opportunity.

To be fair to them, they’re dealing with a lot “strategic” voters. Two elections ago their votes really weren’t all that far behind the other two. For their 3.5mil votes they got ~25 seats and for their 5.5mil votes the Liberals got ~155; since people only see seats they just assume that NDP aren’t popular. This last time people got really “strategic” because the Conservatives are fucking awful and going even harder at it than ever. Every time we have a cycle that, things get just a little bit worse and now we have to claw ourselves out of it from so much further down the hole.

Even in first past the post anyone can win if you vote for them. The problem with the system is the scare tactics centrists can use to get votes from progressives. We need ranked choice really badly.

Right-wing lunatics get elected -> things get worse -> people vote for neoliberals who promise to make everything better -> things fail to get better -> Conservatives promise to go even harder this time -> repeat forever.

There was a neat little meme going around illustrating the cycle and pointing out which part of it Canada, the UK, and the USA were in, but I can’t find it right now.

Ranked choice voting and proportional representation was our only way to break the cycle and Trudeau fucked it up.

Fuck this endless angling for parties to govern. More governing, less talking about the race to govern.

NDP have had a wide open net policy wise for decades. The moment Trudeau reneged on electoral reform they should have taken the shot. If dental coverage is all they could achieve than its definitely time for a leadership change.

100% agree, I’ve been writing letters about electoral reform because it is absolutely a thing that, if they pressure and push it through, could use having done it as a way to campaign to a population sick of empty promises. If you can get shit done without being the party in power (ahem, Tommy Douglas), what could you get done in power?

The fact that I don’t know who anyone in the NDP is besides Jagmeet and Charlie says a lot about their campaign strategy.

I don’t really know anyone in the Conservative party besides the nutjobs in power, and I know Liberals because they also had power.

I know the NDP people I’ve voted for, but why would I know everyone else all that intimately? There’s a lot going on and they’re not exactly regularly in the news(which is a pretty good thing, for politicians).

I couldn’t tell you the name of the NDP candidate I snubbed to vote defensively for the LPC (we flipped a CPC riding!). But I recognized the LPC candidate as they’d been around for several election cycles despite not winning all of them.

NDP needs to run candidates willing to lose multiple cycles before winning. Every year they’re starting from scratch.

I’d just one single email to be about anything other than begging donations. But nope. Nothing. No meet n greet. No survey. No poll. Just beggars emails.

The NDP guy in my own riding is that guy you’re looking for, and I’m sure there are others. I remember this Singh guy who maintained leadership despite not winning first try, too, maybe you should look him up. And I’m positive that I’ve had plenty of other communications from them other than begging for donations and I don’t remember any emails or anything begging for donations, either.

I’m not saying you’re lying on purpose, but what you are saying isn’t exactly reality, either.
