Huh, weird. I haven’t dated in a looooong time, so I cant say if anything would be off about that.

I’ve always tried to phrase it as “What do you do?”, skipping the “for a living” part. That opens it up to more than just work. It could be “What do you do for a hobby?”, or “What do you do for fun?”, or “What do you do in your free time?”, etc.
Sure, it’s not the best conversation starter, but when I know nothing about someone, it’s a good way to get the ball rolling.

I've never heard of it before'English2·3 days agoTotally. I remember this happening back when everyone was using forums. This is a “Social Media” problem, not just a Lemmy problem. I have no idea how to fix it, but it’s been around longer than votes have been a thing.

The first time I heard it called “brain” was in the movie Waiting.
WARNING: There is some language in this clip that hasn’t aged well, just like most of the movie…
piefood@feddit.onlinetoPolitical Memes@lemmy.world•Well, we have the fucking camps opening. Luckily, plenty of terminally online leftists are ready to tell us how noble and moral not voting was!English0·4 days agoThey do. Check out Mamdani, who had record-breaking voters turn out. Remember FDR? They voted so hard for him, that Congress had to set up term-limits. It turns out that this “Leftists don’t vote meme” is bullshit. Leftists just don’t want to vote for Right-Wingers, which is why they never show up for Democrats.

Luckily, plenty of terminally online leftists are ready to tell us how noble and moral not voting was!English0·5 days agoNothing tells me how unserious you are more than you continuing to say that people who very explicitly voted against something, actually voted for it.
Are you going to tell me that War is Peace next? Of that Slavery is Freedom?
piefood@feddit.onlinetoPolitical Memes@lemmy.world•Well, we have the fucking camps opening. Luckily, plenty of terminally online leftists are ready to tell us how noble and moral not voting was!English0·5 days agoAnd how has that been working out? The Democrats keep losing because they keep abandoning their voting base, while trying to pull in Republican voters. Republican voters aren’t generally going to start voting for Democrats, but there’s a giant pile of leftist waiting for a party that actually fights for them. Maybe the Democrats should try appealing to them instead.
piefood@feddit.onlinetoPolitical Memes@lemmy.world•Well, we have the fucking camps opening. Luckily, plenty of terminally online leftists are ready to tell us how noble and moral not voting was!English1·5 days agoIf that is true, then it sounds like the Dems should start catering to the left, instead of telling them to sit down and shut up.
Additionally, that poll says “…a top reason…”, not the only reason. Look at the other issues listed in the poll:
- The economy
- Medicare and Social Security
- Immigration and border security
- Healthcare
- Abortion policy
All things that the Democrats keep campaigning on, but doing practially nothing about.

Self-reflection much?

It wasn’t sabatoged, it was because he was too busy boming innocent people, backing a genocide, and writing checks to his rich friends to get things done for the voters.

I also blame the party that built out the infrastucture that fascism is currently using for all of this. I don’t blame the ones that voted against it.

Fixed that for you
People demonstrably vote, including leftists. I also never said that not voting is going to move politicians to the left.
