Never create a budget line to establish a project to solve a problem. Once a budget line is established, the problem will never go away because then the budget, and the department behind it, will have to be disbanded… But those dependent on the department budget will scream bloody hell, and so the budget line will continue past its best before date.

The problem with the ‘Gender Equality’ budget line, is that when the problem is resolved and things are getting better, the ‘budget line’ will become more and more entrenched in finding needless solutions that are designed only to ‘deplete the budget’.

Really, when exactly did they have in mind for the federal funds for gender equality to disappear? I mean, the entire purpose of the funding was to eliminate gender inequality so money will no longer have to be spent trying to eliminate it.

    It’s honestly time.

Edit, the downvotes tell me I should at least explain why I feel this way

My opinion is informed because I work in the field where most of these monies end up being spent. Sadly what has happened is it has propped up a new system that is just as corrupt as the old one

Most of the objectives which are just and good and necessary, have been achieved to the degree that the government involvement can have a positive influence

Beyond this, it’s just a swirling money pit, I see everyday how many millions are wasted, to the deprivation of real positive change

Yes, I worked at a government funded Healing Center who’s mandate was to provide therapeutic services for CSA survivors - all peoples. Where the director had their own socio-political agenda, and the funding and “correct SM virtues” behind them to enact a policy which with withdrew services from everybody except indigenous women and LGBTQ+ folk. I am completely in favor of services for those communities, the ones most marginalized. But as I said, the money flooding into the systems have created a new system of power, where certain people have built little castles and their own fiefdoms. What ended up happening is the department ostensibly designed to create unity, has just created more divisions, and took services away from other communities which are desperately underserved.

Thanks for the context! Maybe the way we structure organizations needs to change before we can expect any meaningful changes to the status quo to actually stick in the long term instead of miring themselves in just another broken system. Maybe “meet the new boss, same as the old boss” ain’t gonna cut it in the modern era

The ironic thing is that I actually dated one of the women on the board of directors. Her very PhD thesis was the research that the government cannot drive positive social change, and every action undertaken has deleterious effects

And there she sat on the board with her big fat cushy position, driving an over priced SUV

That is the grim reality when you break past the messaging online and you actually understand what happens with the money.

Most of the funding cuts are related to combating domestic violence.

Even if you think that women are treated fairly in places like jobs, the department isn’t just covering “equal pay for equal work”

Hey don’t get me started on that whole thing.

It needs to be said outright that most violence is driven by women. It’s not wrong to state that per incident, men do more damage, but the facts are on my side.

One of the most sinister things is by continuing to assert the popular social media view that women need protection, we actually deny women protection. The amount of violence in non-binary relationships is insane my friend. And we also therby deny men protection, which is truly sad because if men are to occupy a new place in our world, they also need healing and protection.
